Nothing but the Blood of Jesus
This story is part of a longer journey in my faith walk. For the full context, I encourage you to read my complete testimony later. (You can read that here.) But here is one chapter — one that showed me the depth of God’s mercy in a way I will never forget.
The Weight of Condemnation
A couple of years after God had first revealed Himself to me, I stumbled badly. I backslid. I did things I knew were sin against God, and the guilt that followed nearly crushed me.
It’s hard to describe, but it felt like hell on earth — knowing who God is, yet believing I could never again have fellowship with Him. I felt condemned, hopeless, and cut off from His presence. I even wanted to die just to escape the shame, but I knew if I died in that condition, I would be separated from Him forever. There seemed to be no way out.
In my despair, I dropped to my knees and prayed through tears:
“God, I know I’ve backslid. Can You forgive me for backsliding?”
God’s Answer
Over the next few days, God showed me through His Word that forgiveness was possible. But the condemnation was still so heavy that I begged Him one more time:
“Please, Lord, show me that I’m forgiven for backsliding.” I had to hear that word.
Not long after, I turned on the TV and a Christian program was on. A preacher I had never seen before looked straight into the camera, pointed his finger right at me, and said:
“You, backslider, watching this program — Jesus says, come back to Him. He has forgiven you.”
In that moment, the crushing weight lifted. The guilt, the shame, the condemnation — all gone instantly. I knew Jesus had spoken directly to me.
Nothing to Offer, Everything to Receive
And here’s what I realized: I had nothing to offer Him. I couldn’t bargain my way back into His love. I couldn’t clean myself up or earn His forgiveness. There was nothing in me that could wash away my sin.
Only the blood of Jesus.
Scripture became alive in that moment:
- “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
- “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
- “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” — Ephesians 1:7
- “For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
That day I understood more clearly than ever: Jesus didn’t forgive me because of anything I brought to Him. He forgave me because of His mercy, His grace, and His blood shed on the cross.
I deserved wrath. Instead, He gave me mercy.
I deserved judgment. Instead, He gave me forgiveness.
I was powerless. But His blood made me clean.
And when I called on His name, He not only forgave me — He restored me.
The Bible promises: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” — Romans 10:13. I am living proof that’s true.
An Invitation to You
Maybe you’ve felt the same way — crushed by guilt, weighed down by shame, convinced you’ve gone too far. I know that feeling, and I also know the truth: there is nothing you can offer Jesus to make yourself clean. Nothing.
But the good news is this: the blood of Jesus is enough. His sacrifice on the cross is the only thing that can wash away sin, guilt, and condemnation. You don’t have to carry that weight anymore.
If you will simply call on His name, He will meet you right where you are. He will forgive, restore, and make you new.
A Simple Prayer
If you’re ready, pray this from your heart:
“Jesus, I come to You just as I am. I have nothing to offer You — nothing that can take away my sin. But I believe that Your blood, shed on the cross, is enough. Please forgive me, wash me clean, and take away my guilt and shame. I surrender my life to You. Be my Savior, my Lord, and my hope. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me walk with You from this day forward. Thank You for loving me, even when I was far from You. Amen.”
Don’t wait — call out to Him today. He is listening, and He is faithful.
2 Corinthians 5:21
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (ESV)
